These are the tools and resources I depend on for my application process :
Essay Analysis :
I usually begin by looking up on :
accepted.com (http://blog.accepted.com/acceptedcom_blog/ and MBA Application Tips and Deadlines in the menu).
essayedge.com http://www.essayedge.com/business/essayadvice/
clearadmit.com http://blog.clearadmit.com/ (Click on Essay Topic Analysis in left menu)
These give me some idea on what the schools are looking for in the responses to the questions.
After this, I think of what examples I can use from my past to respond to the questions.
Of course, in between I ask my wife a thousand times whether my stories make sense...kinda like beta testing :-)
Essay Writing :
I use Google Docs (http://docs.google.com/) to write all my essays. Actually, for me this was out of necessity. My wife sometimes needed this personal laptop and for official work needed her office laptop. This resulted in me having to e-mail stuff from one to the other. Google Docs presented itself as a better alternative. So now I have a folder there for each school I am applying to. I have an easier time logging into my account and continuing from where I left off.
I also look up http://www.gmatclub.com/ and http://www.pagalguy.com/ as there are lots of discussions on virtually everything on B-School application process in those sites.
Other tools :
http://www.wordcalc.com/ - to count if I am within essay word limits.
Microsoft-Word - SHIFT+F7 to find synonyms so I dont use the same word again in the essay.
Interviews :
Check out the interview database in http://www.accepted.com/mba/InterviewFeedback.aspx
Has interview experiences from a lot of applicants to the top programs.
One more useful link : http://blog.accepted.com/ - Click on Menu link at the bottom right.
MBA Podcaster also has useful podcasts on how to ace interviews.
Richard Montauk's book has a full chapter devoted to interviews....a bit detailed for my taste though...talks about preferable color of suit etc. !!!
