Today is World Earth Day. I am celebrating it by pledging to switch the remaining 6 incandescent bulbs in my house to CFLs. I have also pledged to do simple things like turning off lights when I dont need them, reducing the wastage of water by turning off the water when I start brushing my teeth , buying some plants which I will keep in the balcony.
I also circulated a short e-mail to folks at work explaining the huge savings in energy and cost as well as the reduced Greehouse gas emissions that are a result of this switch.
CFLs consume 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs.
They also last much longer (8-10 years compared to a year or less for Incandescent bulbs).
Several countries (e.g. Australia, some provinces in Canada, some states in USA) have already passed laws requiring their countrymen to switch from Incandescent bulbs to CFLs.
You can also pledge to switch from Incandescent bulbs to CFLs at this link :

Happy Earth Day ! Lets save the planet for our future generations.
Remember every bit we do to reduce energy means that much less energy is produced in the coal power plants and therefore that much less CO2 in the atmosphere.
